Antenatal Care

Antenatal clinics are run twice a week by the midwife, so that every pregnant woman is seen regularly.

Baby Checks

Routine Baby Checks on growth and development are offered by the practice and the children are seen regularly by the Doctor and Health Visitor.

Childhood Immunisations

We offer all the usual childhood vaccinations. If you have any queries regarding immunisation please do not hesitate to ask.

Family Planning Services

We offer all forms of family planning including the pill, coil fitting, injections and implants. Also counselling and referral are made for female sterilisation or vasectomy.

Cervical Smear Tests

These are performed by the Practice Nurse. You will be able to have a routine check done at the same time and also you can discuss any health concerns with the nurse.

Diabetic Clinic

Diabetic patients are offered regular checks to review treatment and check for diabetic status and complications.

Asthma Clinic

Asthmatic patients are offered regular checks to advise on treatment and check lung function and inhaler technique.

Influenza Vaccinations

Each Autumn, flu vaccination will be offered, especially to the elderly (aged over 65) and those at risk (Patients with Heart Disease, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary disease, Renal Disease, Liver Disease, Severe Asthma and also carers.) Please enquire at the end of September.

Health Promotion

Well woman check, Well Man Check, Heart Disease Prevention Counselling and Menopause Counselling are available. Also we are inviting patients who are aged between 40-75 without any significant cardiovascular problems for a Vascular Health Check and please wait for your invitation from the practice

Travel Vaccinations

Please obtain all the travel information from the link below and Based on this if you require any vaccination  please complete the travel questionnaire link at the bottom of this page. Call the surgery few days after completing the questionnaire. If you require any vaccines, the nurse will be able to give this. She will not give you general travel medical advice.  It is your resposibility to find out travel medical advice from travel agent or travel websites. (You will have only 10 minutes appointment with the nurse).

Malaria Tablets:

If you require malaria tablet this can be purchased from the Pharmacy. Some tablets will require a private prescription from the doctor. If you let us know the travel destination and number of days you are away, a prescription will be done which you can collect from the surgery.

If you require any vaccinations relating to foreign travel you need to make an appointment with the practice nurse to discuss your travel arrangements. This will include which countries and areas within countries that you are visiting to determine what vaccinations are required.

It is important to make this initial appointment as early as possible - at least 6 weeks before you travel - as a second appointment will be required with the practice nurse to actually receive the vaccinations. These vaccines have to be ordered as they are not a stock vaccine. Your second appointment needs to be at least 2 weeks before you travel to allow the vaccines to work.

Some travel vaccines are ordered on a private prescription and these incur a charge over and above the normal prescription charge. This is because not all travel vaccinations are included in the services provided by the NHS.

Travelling in Europe

Sickness Certificates

You do not require a doctor's sickness certificate for any illness lasting seven days or less . Your employer may however require you to complete a self-certification form (SC2) which is available from your employer or on the HMRC website.

If the employer insists on having a sick note for seven days or less, this has to be a private sick note which is chargeable.

Evidence that you are sick

If you are sick for more than seven days, your employer can ask you to give them some form of medical evidence to support payment of SSP (statutory sick pay).

It is up to your employer to decide whether you are incapable of work. A medical certificate, now called a 'Statement of Fitness for Work’ (see below) from your doctor is strong evidence that you are sick and would normally be accepted, unless there is evidence to prove otherwise. If you are ready to return to work, with the new certificate you don't require a fit to return to work certificate.

You could also provide evidence from someone who is not a medical practitioner, e.g. a dentist. Your employer will decide whether or not this evidence is acceptable. If your employer has any doubts, they may still ask for a medical certificate from your GP.

Statement of Fitness for Work - ’Fit Note'

The 'fit note' was introduced on 6 April 2010. With your employer's support, the note will help you return to work sooner by providing more information about the effects of your illness or injury.

All the diabetic patients will require an annual check with the nurse. This will take 30 minutes and please ask for an annual check with the nurse when you book the appointment. When you come for this appointment please do not have breakfast, tea or coffee in the morning and also bring a sample of urine. 

Please do not book to see the GP if you have any tooth related problems. We will not be able to deal with this and you will be asked to contact a Dentist. If you do not have a dentist there is a Dental helpline and their number is 0300 4210505
